In January, former Chief of the General Staff Josef Bečvář became president of Glomex Military Supplies. In this capacity, he will be responsible for the company’s strategy as well as partner and customer outreach. The company announced it on Friday.
Bečvář has spent his entire professional life in the army.
Bečvář intends to expand the company’s cooperation with the French defence industry and pursue more business opportunities in francophone countries. Glomex MS supplies armed forces with security technologies. The company has won several contracts for the Czech army and the Czech police.
Bečvář (60) has spent his entire professional life in the army. He left the Army last summer and was replaced by Aleš Opata as Chief of the General Staff. In the past, he had commanded the Military Police and served as a defence attaché in France.
“Having reached the peak of my career in the Czech army, I decided to pursue new opportunities in the private sector. Naturally, I chose a field in which I have been working for decades and which I know very well,” he explains. He added that he chose the company because they offered him an attractive managerial position in which he would be responsible for the company´s strategy, marketing and teamwork on individual projects.
“Glomex MS is a dynamic medium-sized company which was the perfect choice for me. I could learn new skills and grow with the company,” he says. Having spent several years in France, he intends to expand the company’s cooperation with the French defence industry and pursue more business opportunities in francophone countries.
According to the executive director, Jiří Sadílek, Bečvář has proved to be a capable manager with an excellent reputation. “His experience as a military attaché in France was an important factor for us,” he explains. “We consider it important that the company be presided by an experienced manager and a figure highly regarded by security professionals. That is why we want to openly communicate this move to the public,” he added.
Glomex Military Supplies was founded in 2008. Two thirds of its revenues come from orders placed by the Czech Army. The company is also active on the Central and Eastern European market. “Glomex MS is part of an investment group called Glomex Invest, which is a joint-stock company whose revenues for the 2018 accounting year exceeded CZK 300 million,” the company announced.
The company has over 50 employees, divided into three smaller groups: the ground systems division, the air force systems division and the special forces products and services division. The company did not make its ownership structure public, but its representatives claim that the owners are known to the Czech National Security Authority and the Ministry of Defence and they are also listed in the Mandatory register of ultimate beneficial owners.
In 2016, Glomex MS won a contract to service two army Airbus planes up to 2021, which was worth CZK 387 million excluding VAT. The company acted as an intermediary for Lufthansa Technik. It also supplied night-vision aviator goggles to the police and provided the army with high-altitude equipment for the CASA aircraft pilots and a self-propelled loading machine for the air force.
